The manuscript for Mournful Threads is finished!
All edits and revisions are complete, and the manuscript is locked. It is now time to finish the art and begin production. It’s hard to express how I feel over finally being done with this. On one hand, major relief. On the other, kind of sad about it being over with. But mostly relief.
First of all, this took far longer than I expected. It’s hard to establish, much less maintain, a good writing flow while balancing two writing jobs and a host of interests. Most times when I sat down to work on ‘Threads, I just had no energy, physical or otherwise. Additionally, I fought a ludicrous amount of plot block. I had no idea what to do with this book for the longest time. I knew I had…something…but what that something was kept hiding from me.
Originally, ‘Threads started off as another collection, like Beyond Silence and Light (don’t go checking that one out just yet, though. I am in the process of finally fixing some things that have bugged me about that book for 4 years, so it eventually will eventually be re-released, likely in hardcover.) But then I got a bug up my ass to link a few chapters. Then a few more. And finally I decided to link the whole damn thing.
The web grew from there, and the next thing I knew, I had a whole bunch of little dots to connect. The result is a linear, tightly linked collection that reads like a novel – with breadcrumbs galore. It was an ambitious project that forced me to beat my head against the wall with such frequency and ferocity that I nearly shelved the thing about 50 times.
I’m glad I didn’t though, and now it’s close to finally being out in the world.
It’s almost time.
